Personal Data and Artificial Intelligence in Local Government: Relevant Issues

Abstract

Data is the main asset of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In public Administration, it goes without saying that we find an infinite number of structured, semi-structured or unstructured data sets, which could be the nutrient of AI. However, among said data, personal data requires special attention, since their processing operations, associated with AI systems, entail a risk for the rights and freedoms of the affected natural persons. Therefore, the Local Administration, as the data controller, may obtain initial guidance on how to meet some of the main obligations and responsibilities arising from legislation on the protection of personal data, in accordance with the European AI Regulation.
